Frequently Asked Questions

D. Do you find your child especially challenging or draining?

Not all children are made alike. Each person is born with a particular personality and although we can encourage or discourage certain behaviors, we do not have all the control. Children are not a blank slate for the parent to write upon. They bring into the world many sensitivities, tendencies, skills, challenges, and quirks. Our job is to help them make the best of what they have.

Children may not be developing the way they are expected to. They may have some learning disabilities or challenges, which are hidden or hard to diagnose.

It is important to get as much information as you can on your child’s behavior from your child’s doctor, school counselor, or mental health counselor. Most child abuse is the result of a child not reacting the way they are expected to. Remember each child develops in their own way at their own rate.

If you feel your child is not responding the way you expect, an assessment by a qualified child counselor or psychologist is an important step. Your insurance provider should be able to give you a list of qualified professionals. If not, you can call First Call For Help at ….. to find a counselor experienced in assessing childhood behavioral, learning, or emotional problems.
